John Isner won his first USTA Pro Circuit Challenger tournament with a three-set victory over Canadian Frank Dancevic at the $50,000 Lubbok Challenger.
Former Georgia Bulldog and resident of Greensboro, N.C. Isner prevailed 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-2. The 23-year-old was seeded third and Dancevic was seeded fourth.
Isner moved his world ranking up to 132. He was as high as No. 81 in the ATP rankings last April. He has been playing on the Challenger circuit this summer and fall.
In othe USTA Southern pro news, Carly Gullickson of Brentwood, Tenn. made it to the finals of the $50,000 ITF Circuit's Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Tennis Classic in Ashland, Ky. Unseeded Gullickson was defeated by Varvara Lepchenko 6-7, 6-0, 6-2 in a two-hour, 29-minute final.
In the doubles, second-seeded Gullickson and hometown player Julie Ditty dropped a two-set final to Liga Dekemeijere and Jelena Pandzic 6-1, 6-2.
