Wimbledon Update: Reynolds Knocked out of Wimbledon

June 27, 2008 03:21 PM

Bobby Reynolds took to the grass courts of Wimbledon in the third round not only as the only Southern Section player left in the tournament, but the only American male left as well. A disappointing tournament for American men got a bit worse as Reynolds lost his third round match.

Reynolds’ third round opponent was Spain’s Feliciano Lopez. Reynolds had trouble getting his game going against his seeded opponent. While much of the match’s statistics were very close, Reynolds could not break through and take the momentum away from Lopez. Reynolds only won 58% of the points when coming to the net, compared to 74% in his second round match. Reynolds also had problems doing much against Lopez’ serve, as he was only able to win 23% of the points when he was receiving.

The 4-6, 5-7, 6-4, 4-6 loss ended Reynolds’ most successful run at Wimbledon after losing in the first round a year ago. The Southern players will now turn their focus to the hard courts, and will hope to have a better showing in the U.S. Open later on this summer.
