Southern Players Look to Qualify at RBC Bank Challenger

The inaugural RBC Bank Challenger / USTA $25,000 Women’s Event will be held at North Hills Club in Raleigh – beginning Sunday, May 11 with qualifying rounds. Main draw matches start on Wednesday, May 14. The tournament is the last scheduled clay court women’s event on the USTA Pro Circuit before the 2008 French Open. More than 100 professional tennis players from around the world, ages 14 and up, are anticipated to compete in the tournament.

Chelsey Gullickson, 17, of Brentwood, TN will be competing for one of eight spots in the main draw, determined during the singles qualifying event which began on May 10. Gullickson broke the Top 600 for the first time in April. Gullickson the seven seed in the qualifier, will face off against McCall Jones in her first round. Also looking to qualify is Grace Min of Lawrenceville, GA who won her first round match against Sianna Simmons, 6-2, 6-1.

The USTA Women's Pro Circuit consists of four different tournaments based on the prize money. The RBC Bank Women's Challenger falls into the $25,000 tournament. The tournament will take place at North Hills Club in Raleigh, NC Matches are free during the day Sunday through Friday. Night matches are $5 per person; children under 10 are free. All ticket sales go to the Boys and Girls Club of Raleigh. Tickets are available by calling the North Hills Pro Shop at (919) 781-0468.
