Reynolds Wins Second Consecutive Challenger Title

April 28, 2008 01:03 PM

Southern native, Bobby Reynolds, captured his second consecutive title at the Price Leblanc Lexus Pro Tennis Classic in Baton Rouge, LA. Reynolds fought a tough battle against Igor Kunitsyn of Russia to secure the title 6-3, 6-7(3), 7-5. Reynolds entered the tournament as the second seed and cruised to his second final appearance in two weeks with straight set wins through the semifinal round.

In doubles action, Louisiana native and pro circuit newcomer, Ryan Harrison teamed with Michael Venus in a surprise run to the championship match. Harrison and Venus fell to the unseeded American team of Simmonds and Smyczek in a third set tiebreaker.

On the women's side, Bethanie Mattek nabbed her fifth singles title on the USTA Pro Circuit last week at the 2008 Movie Gallery Pro Classic in Dothan, AL. The $75,000 Challenger proved to be an easy run for the Florida native as the sixth seed finished off her first three opponents in straight sets. Mattek advanced to the finals when Jamea Jackson withdrew before their scheduled semifinal match on Saturday. Mattek bested Varvara Lepchenko in the finals 6-2,7-6(3).

In the doubles final, the team of Tetiana Luzhanska and Michaela Pastikova defeated Maria-Fernanda Alves and Stephanie Dubois, 6-1, 6-3.
