The USTA Pro Circuit Season Kicks Off in the Southern Section

The USTA Pro Circuit season is underway as two tournaments visited the Southern Section last week, one in Jackson, MS and the other in Mobile, AL. Georgia native, Bobby Reynolds and partner, Rajeev Ram came through with a thrilling victory as they took home the doubles title at the 2008 Puerto Rico Men’s $50K Challenger.

The M&F Bank Women’s $25K Pro Challenger was held at the River Hills Club in Jackson, MS. The big winner of the tournament was Soledad Esperon of Argentina. She defeated the No. 8 seed Luzhanska, 6-7(3) 6-2 6-1 to take home the singles title and she also took home the doubles title with partner, Maria Irigoyen after defeating the No. 1 seeds, Michaela Pastikova and Christina Fusano, 1-6 6-3 [10-6].

The 2008 Newton Cox USTA Men's Professional Tennis Classic held at the Mobile Tennis Center. Travis Rettenmaier had a big tournament as he knocked out the No. 8, No. 4, and No. 2 seeds to clinch the singles title. The doubles title went to the No. 1 seeds, Alexander Sadecky and Izak Van Der Merwe after they defeated Rylan Rizza and Travis Rettenmaier, 6-7(5) 6-4 [10-7].

Georgia native, Bobby Reynold, and doubles partner Rajeev Ram took home the Puerto Rico Men’s $50K Challenger doubles title. Reynold and Ram had an impressive tournament as they knocked out the No. 1 seeds in the semifinal round and defeated unseeded, Kim Kevin and Lester Cook in the final round.
