Southern Teams Clean Up at USTA Mixed Doubles Championships

USTA League Tennis presented by Chrysler is the world’s largest recreational tennis league. Established in 1980, the program began with 13,000 participants, playing in only a portion of the country. This year, it celebrated its 27th Anniversary, and had over 625,000 participants, playing across the entire United States, in all 17 USTA Sections. USTA League Tennis offers recreational players the opportunity to get a great workout, improve their skills, have fun, and compete for a National Championship.

SOUTHERN WINS 6.0 ADULT NATIONAL EASTERN MIXED CHAMPIONSHIPS

The mixed doubles team from Mandeville, La. representing the USTA Southern Section, captured the national title at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 6.0 Adult National Eastern Mixed Championships held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., Nov. 16-18. The weekend brought together 37 adult teams from eight USTA Sections including USTA Caribbean, USTA Florida, USTA Middle States, USTA New England, USTA Eastern, USTA Mid Atlantic, USTA Midwest and USTA Southern.

The Southern team defeated a team from Puerto Rico, representing the USTA Caribbean Section, in the championship match with 2 wins and 1 loss. On the previous day, the Southern team defeated a team from USTA Middle States in the semifinals, while the USTA Caribbean team defeated a team from USTA Eastern in the semifinals. Both teams advanced to the championship match by winning their round-robin flights contested Friday and Saturday.

SOUTHERN WINS 8.0 ADULT NATIONAL EASTERN MIXED CHAMPIONSHIPS

The mixed doubles team from Knoxville, Tenn., representing the USTA Southern Section, captured the national title at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 8.0 Adult National Eastern Mixed Championships held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., Nov. 16-18. The weekend brought together 37 adult teams from eight USTA Sections including USTA Florida, USTA Middle States, USTA New England, USTA Eastern, USTA Mid Atlantic, USTA Midwest, USTA Caribbean and USTA Southern.

The Southern team defeated a team from Howard County, Md., representing the USTA Mid Atlantic Section, in the championship match with 2 wins and 1 loss. On the previous day, the Southern team defeated a team from USTA Caribbean in the semifinals, while the USTA Mid Atlantic team defeated a team from USTA Middle States in the semifinals. Both teams advanced to the championship match by winning their round-robin flights contested Friday and Saturday.

SOUTHERN WINS 10.0 ADULT NATIONAL EASTERN MIXED CHAMPIONSHIPS

The mixed doubles team from Raleigh, N.C., representing the USTA Southern Section, captured the national title at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 10.0 Adult National Eastern Mixed Championships held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., Nov. 16-18. The 10.0 level was the highest division at the tournament, which brought together 37 adult teams from eight USTA Sections including USTA Middle States, USTA New England, USTA Eastern, USTA Mid Atlantic, USTA Midwest, USTA Caribbean, USTA Florida and USTA Southern.

The Southern team finished the competition with a perfect record of 4 wins and zero losses, and defeated teams from USTA Florida, USTA Mid Atlantic, USTA Eastern and USTA Middle States. The mixed doubles team from Jacksonville, Fla., representing USTA Florida, finished a close second with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss; their only loss was to USTA Southern.

SOUTHERN WINS 7.0 SENIOR NATIONAL EASTERN MIXED CHAMPIONSHIPS

The mixed doubles team from Shreveport-Bossier City, La., representing the USTA Southern Section, captured the national title at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 7.0 Senior National Eastern Mixed Championships held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., Nov. 16-18. The weekend brought together 28 senior teams from eight USTA Sections including USTA Caribbean, USTA Florida, USTA Middle States, USTA New England, USTA Eastern, USTA Mid Atlantic, USTA Midwest and USTA Southern.

The Southern team defeated a team from Delaware, representing the USTA Middle States Section, in the championship match with 2 wins and 1 loss. On the previous day, the Southern team defeated a team from USTA Florida in the semifinals, while the USTA Middle States team defeated a team from USTA Eastern in the semifinals. Both teams advanced to the championship match by winning their round-robin flights contested Friday and Saturday.

On the previous day, the Southern team defeated a team from USTA Florida in the semifinals, while the USTA Eastern team defeated a team from USTA Middle States in the semifinals. Both teams advanced to the championship match by winning their round-robin flights contested Friday and Saturday.

SOUTHERN WINS 9.0 SENIOR NATIONAL EASTERN MIXED CHAMPIONSHIPS

The mixed doubles team from New Orleans, representing the USTA Southern Section, captured the national title at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 9.0 Senior National Eastern Mixed Championships held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., Nov. 16-18. The 9.0 level was the highest division in the senior competition, which brought together 28 senior teams from eight USTA Sections including USTA Middle States, USTA New England, USTA Eastern, USTA Mid Atlantic, USTA Midwest, USTA Caribbean, USTA Florida and USTA Southern.

The Southern team finished the competition with a perfect record of 3 wins and zero losses, and defeated teams from USTA Florida, USTA Mid Atlantic and USTA Southern (the wildcard team). The mixed doubles team from Montgomery County, Md., representing the USTA Mid Atlantic Section, finished a close second with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss; their only loss was to USTA Southern.
