USTA Southern Umpires Honored for Outstanding Work

October 22, 2007 09:09 AM
The John McGovern Award is given annually to a chair or line umpire who has given a lifetime of dedication, service and expertise to tennis officiating. This year Missy Malool of Bluffton, South Carolina received this prestigious award, which is the highest honor an American official can receive from their peers. Missy started her officiating career as a line umpire, became an ITF Chair Umpire and quickly became one of the elite ITF Chair Umpires in the world. For the past several years, Missy has been a Supervisor on the USTA Women’s Pro Circuit tour.

The Jack Stahr Award is presented annually to an umpire in one of their first three years at the US Open in recognition of hard work, professionalism, technical ability and cooperative attitude. It recognizes outstanding work primarily as a line umpire. This year Jamey Davis of Mobile, Alabama received this prestigious award.
