Isner Sails Into The Third Round

John Isner is giving Georgia Bulldog fans something to cheer about as he cruises into the third round of the US Open, after last night’s win against Rik De Voest. The wild card entry from Greensboro, N.C., is turning heads as he continues to advance in his first ever Grand Slam appearance. With his amazing win in the first round against the No. 26 seed, Nieminen, to last nights win, Isner is having a break out tournament.

Isner had an arsenal of tricks up his sleeve as he capitalized on calm drop shots, dominant forehands, and his powerful serve, that at one point reached an astonishing 139 MPH. Isner had 62 winners and 14 aces in the match to clinch the victory in straight sets.

Now Isner has a tough challenge ahead of him as he is set to face the No. 1 player in the world, Rodger Federer this Saturday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Georgia native, Robby Ginepri also advanced to the next round of the US Open after his first round win over Olivier Rochus of Belgium, 6-0, 6-3, 6-1. Last night Ginepri made it look easy as he hit 45 winners and 10 aces sending Rochus home early. Next Ginepri will face Teimuraz Gabashvili in the second round.
