BREC Receives Grant from the USTA to Renovate the City Park Tennis Center

August 13, 2007 11:10 AM

The United States Tennis Association awarded a $25,000 grant to BREC from their Facility Funding Grant Program to be used towards the construction of the Capital One tennis facility at BREC’s City Park on Wednesday, August 8.

The Capital One Tennis Center construction will finish soon and it is scheduled to open to the public in November 2007, weather permitting.

The center will house restrooms, lockers, shower facilities and a pro shop. The aft section of the center will feature a covered porch with café-style seating which will allow spectators to view court play. The plans also call for well-lit parking areas that will provide easy access to seven courts.

“The USTA is pleased to make this grant to assist BREC in the construction of this new tennis facility at City Park. This wonderful new facility will provide a location for a new and additional tennis program and will contribute to continued growth of tennis in the Baton Rouge Community,” according to Michael McNulty, Vice President of the USTA’s Southern Section.

The center will be open seven days a week and will have a teaching professional who will provide instruction and programs.

According to Yvette Marshall, BREC’s Tennis Manager, “It is anticipated that this site will be highly utilized for tournaments, USTA league play, high school leagues and outreach programs for youth and adults in the local neighborhood.”
