2007 Tennis Block Party presented by The Daniel Island News

August 6, 2007 04:52 PM

The Family Circle Tennis Center, Charleston’s premier public tennis facility, will host a Tennis Block Party presented by The Daniel Island News from 9:00am to noon on Saturday, August 18th to showcase the many tennis programs available for the whole family, and to kick off the fall Junior and Adult Tennis Program session. Growing the game of tennis has always been a top priority for the Family Circle Tennis Center, and this United States Tennis Association (USTA) backed initiative is a proven catalyst for community growth throughout America’s pubic facilities.

Children and adults will enjoy a morning of free activities featuring music, games, drills, contests, a tennis carnival, “hit & get”, adult tennis zone, raffles, prizes, food, snacks, refreshments, and many other activities planned for this day of tennis fun. This premier USTA event will feature the newest tennis instructional techniques designed to introduce the game of tennis in a fun and easy manner where everyone can quickly pick up the game and succeed at this sport of a lifetime. There’s no registration necessary, and all participants can enjoy a tour of the facility and will be eligible for prizes and giveaways.

“Our commitment to growing the game of tennis at the grass roots level has brought so many new players to this exciting sport since we reorganized our programs one year ago, and we’re happy to celebrate and continue that growth where it all started, with another community block party,” commented Rob Eppelsheimer, Family Circle Tennis Center Director. “Playing tennis is really all about having fun with friends, so we encourage everyone to learn the basics or brush up on some rusty strokes at this free event so they too can enjoy this sport of a lifetime.”

The Daniel Island News has signed on as presenting sponsor of the Tennis Block Party for the second consecutive year, illustrating their strong support of community events throughout the Charleston area. Believing in the power of community, their support has been key to the success of this event and many others throughout the Lowcountry since their inception in 2003.

“We are committed to lending our support to this community event for a second consecutive year, and we hope everyone comes out to enjoy a great day of fun,” said Sue Detar, Publisher – The Daniel Island News. “Everyone really had a fantastic time at last year’s Tennis Block Party, so we’d like to invite the entire Lowcountry to experience the enjoyment of playing tennis at Charleston’s premier public tennis facility.”
