Roddick and Ginepri Headline Showdown Match at Infinite Energy Atlanta Slam

August 2, 2007 03:02 PM

Andy Roddick, one of the greatest tennis players in the world and Atlanta’s own ATP tour star Robby Ginepri will compete in a sizzling showdown exhibition match on December 15th, 7 pm, in the Arena at Gwinnett Center. This match between the top ranked American player and the 4th ranked American player will be nothing short of pure adrenalin!! Roddick has won 22 titles to date, including the US Open and is currently #4 in the world.

Ginepri has pushed his opponents consistently, including giving Rodger Federer a supreme challenge at the Cincinnati Masters Series. He has also won the US Open series in Indianapolis defeating Roddick and Taylor Dent. Just 2 weeks later he reached the semi finals at the 2005 US Open.

More talent will grace the walls, starting with Georgia’s Scoville Jenkins against nineteen year old Sam Querrey, pitting the first African American to capture the USTA 18’s national title in over 96 years against the 8th ranked American tennis player. Querrey most recently defeated James Blake and set an Open Era record with 10 consecutive aces.

“This will be a spectacular and exciting night of world class tennis, featuring 6 current ATP and WTA players, plus sensational family entertainment including a kids clinic, ping pong, and face painting” says Trevor Short, President of T & S Events, “all the players are thrilled to be in Atlanta for these matches, and there will be fabulous contests and fun for everyone!”

Additionally, former Georgian Ashley Harkleroad will play against Marietta’s 15 year old sensation Melanie Oudin. These incredibly skilled young women are considered some of the hottest up and coming talent in the tennis scene. Ashley is currently ranked #86 in the WTA rankings and defeated 3 top 20 players in 2003. Melanie just competed in her first Junior Wimbledon and already has wins over women ranked top 250 WTA.
