Georgia's Irene Shepard Wins Two Gold Balls During 2007 USTA National Women's 80 Clay Courts

Irene Shepard of Martinez, GA took home the title during the 2007 USTA Women's 80 Clay Court Championships hosted at the Huntsville Tennis Center in Huntsville, AL. The number one seeded Shepard breezed through the draw to the finals without dropping a set. In the finals, Shepard faced Betty Eisenstein of Washington, D.C. and was able to pull out a 3-6; 6-3; 6-3 win over the number two seed.

Shepard paired with Marilyn Skiffington of Naples, FL in doubles play and the duo upset the number two seeded Hall and Niehaus in straight sets to advance to the Championship match. In the finals, Shepard and Skiffington took down the number one seeded team of Price and Tyrell to claim the victory. The win secured Irene Shepard her second gold ball of the tournament.
