USTA Reaches Milestone 700,000th Member

April 4, 2007 01:30 PM
The USTA today announced that Mark Holman of Fayetteville, N.C., became the 700,000th member of the United States Tennis Association. Holman was recognized at a ceremony today at City Hall in Fayetteville.

Holman, age 47, became the 700,000th member when he recently purchased a lifetime membership. The Marketing Manager at NFI Consumer Products in Fayetteville, grew a passion for the game in 1971 when as a 10 year-old he watched the Stan Smith-John Newcombe Wimbledon Finals on television. He has been a regular player ever since and currently plays four days a week.

“To reach 700,000 members is a tremendous accomplishment, and we look forward to continuing the growth of our membership in the years to come,” said Lee Hamilton, Executive Director, USTA. “Each member believes in our goal, to promote and develop the growth of tennis in the United States, and we strive to do that by engaging individuals of all ages and abilities.”

To recognize this hallmark number, the USTA presented Holman with a lifetime USTA membership, tickets to this weekend’s U.S. vs. Spain Davis Cup Quarterfinal match in Winston-Salem, N.C., and an all-expense paid trip to the 2007 US Open in Flushing, N.Y., the world’s largest annually attended sporting event.
