Georgia Tech Captures USTA/ITA Women's National Team Indoor Championship

February 5, 2007 11:55 AM

The women of Georgia Tech defeated Notre Dame 4-2 to claim the USTA/ITA National Women's Indoor Championship at the University of Wisconsin's A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Kirsten Flower, Christy Striplin, and Amanda Craddock took three singles matches and the Yellow Jackets won two of the doubles matches to win the first National Team Indoor Championship in the history of the program.

To advance to the finals Georgia Tech upset No. 1 ranked Stanford who held a NCAA record with an 89-match winning streak. After narrowly escaping the three time defending with a score of 4-3, the Lady Yellow Jackets were primed to face No. 2 seed Notre Dame. Silverio and Craddock both rallied back in their singles matches after losing their first set to win their critical singles points. With the win, Georgia Tech (4-0) becomes just the second ACC school (Duke was the first) to earn the title.
