FILA Athletes on the Move in 2007

January 8, 2007 04:10 PM

The first week of January has already brought success to the Fila tennis athletes. Kim Clijsters won the singles and doubles title in the highly competitive Watsons' Water Champions Challenge in Hong Kong. On her way to the championship she defeated Zheng Jie, Patty Schnyder, and Maria Sharapova. On the doubles side, Clijsters and fellow Fila ambassador Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated the pair of Sharapova/Schnyder, though Clijsters played the championship match with Caroline Wozniacki as Kuznetsova was sidelined with bronchitis. Clijsters/Wozniacki defeated the duo of Zheng Jie and and Yan Li.

On the men's side, Dmitry Tursunov helped Russia to win the Hopman Cup in Australia, by defeating Tommy Robredo of Spain with an impressive 6-4, 7-5 victory.

We look forward to seeing all of our Fila tennis athletes compete in their first events of the new year, and especially at the Australian Open!
