Harkleroad and Gullickson Claim Titles at The San Francisco Tennis Classic

The Golden Gateway Tennis and Swim Club in San Francisco, California hosted its inaugural USTA Women’s Pro Circuit event this past week. The San Francisco Tennis Classic, with a $50,000 prize pool began on October 10th and was free to the public. Southern stars, Ashley Harkleroad and Carly Gullickson claimed titles at the event.

Ashley Harkleroad claimed the singles title by defeating Clarisa Fernandez 6-2, 6-3. Harkleroad swept the competition, dropping only one set in the tournament to Agnes Szavay in the quarterfinals. During the competition, Harkleroad also boasted a 6-4, 6-2 win in the semi-finals over top-seeded Laura Granville of the United States.

Granville partnered with Southern stand-out, Carly Gullickson to claim the doubles title. The pair defeated Christina Fusano and Aleke Tsoubanos of the United States in the finals easily by scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Gullickson and Granville entered the tournament as the third seed. The first and second seeds were beat in the first round leaving the title within easy reach.
