2006 US Open Junior Acceptance Lists Announced

The 2006 US Open Junior acceptance lists have been announced. Three boys and six girls from the USTA Southern Section have been invited to compete in the final Junior Grand Slam event of the year, which will be held at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., from September 3-10.

Seventeen year-old Donald Young, from Atlanta, GA, who also earned a main draw wild card for the US Open leads the Southern Contingent. Young is currently ranked 2nd in USTA Boys 18s Singles. He won the 18s USTA National Championships in July and the Easter Bowl ITF Tennis Championships in April.

Jarmere Jenkins, a 15 year-old from College Park, GA is currently ranked #139 in USTA Boys 16s Singles. He beat #9 ranked Roy Kalmanovich to advance to the quarterfinals of the USTA National Clay Court Championships where he fell to 3rd ranked Davey Sandgren. Jenkins led the US team to a victory at the Junior Davis Cup with a 5-0 overall record.

Rhyne Williams, a 15 year-old from Knoxville, TN is currently ranked #36 in USTA Boys 16s Singles and #56 in Boys 18s Singles. Williams reached the semifinals in both the Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships (16s) in November and the El Paso Youth Tennis Center Open (18s) in October.

Lindsay Burdette a 18 year-old Jackson, GA resident is currently ranked ninth in USTA Girls 18s Singles. Burdette recently finished second in the consolation finals at the USTA National Championships.

Mallory Burdette will be joining her older sister at the tournament, the fifteen year-old won the USTA National Clay Championships in July. Mallory is ranked #13 in Girls 16’s Singles and #16 in Girls 18’s Singles. The Burdette sisters won the 2006 Doubles USTA National Championships.

Jamie Hampton, a sixteen year-old from Auburn, AL had a career high ranking of second in the country in Girls 18s. Hampton was the singles runner-up at $10K ITF tournament in Fort Worth, TX. Hampton recently earned a wild card into a qualifying tournament for the French Open 2006.

Melanie Oudin is the youngest Southern Region player to compete in the Championships. The 14 year-old from Marietta, GA is currently ranked #10 in Girls 18s Singles. Oudin recently finished 5th in Consolation at the USTA National Championships.


Reka Zsilinszka is currently ranked #1 in Girls 18s Singles. The Fayetteville, NC native won the K-Swiss Junior Tennis Championships in February, the USTA National Open in February and the USTA Spring National Championships in March. Seventeen-year-old Zsilinszka was the runner-up in the Jerry Simmons College Station ITF Junior Tennis Classic and the Easter Bowl ITF Tennis Championships.

Mallory Cecil rounds out the group of Southern representatives. The 16-year-old from Spartanburg, SC is currently ranked #10 in Girls 16s Singles and #11 in Girls 18s Singles. She was the runner-up at the USTA National Clay Court Championships in July.
