Tracy Austin Takes Tennis to Heart

June 20, 2006 09:50 AM

Two time U.S. Open Women's Champion Tracy Austin made her way through the Southern Section hosting clinics in Alabama and Mississippi to promote Cardio Tennis and the health benefits of tennis. Austin, a mother of three, has been participating in 'Cardio Tennis' drills for the past ten years in effort to stay fit. She is now working with the USTA to promote tennis and bring more people back to the sport through this workout regimen.

"We're trying to get players to incorporate 'Cardio Tennis' into their tennis regimen," Austin said. "We're trying to get the 90 million people who used to play tennis back into the sport. Maybe they are doing aerobics or speed classes on the bike. It's a new way to stay fit, and keep the heart rate going for an hour and burn a lot of calories."

The Cardio Tennis sessions featured drills designed to give players of all abilities a high-energy workout. The Cardio Tennis program includes warm-up, cardio workout and cool down phases. The goal of Cardio Tennis is to get you moving, get your heart rate pumping, burn calories and have fun while playing. Tennis enthusiasts in Mobile, AL, Fairhope, AL, Gulfport, MS and Jackson, MS had a once in a lifetime opportunity to play with a tennis legend as Austin bounced from court to court participating in drills.

Free Cardio Tennis classes will be offered during the month of June at over 500 locations. Complete information on Cardio Tennis and a listing of sites offering free classes in your area can be found at www.CardioTennis.com.
