Atlanta to Host ATP Challenger Event

April 17, 2006 01:43 PM

Atlanta, Georgia and the Atlanta Athletic Club will play host to the $25,000 ATP Atlanta Claycourt Challenger Series event. The event is scheduled to start May 1st and continue until champions are determined on May 7th.

This event will be the only professional men’s tournament in Georgia in 2006. The field includes a large contingent of American players. Among the American players are Atlanta natives Bobby Reynolds, Brian Vahaly, and Scoville Jenkins. Other notable entries include Mardy Fish and Justin Gimelstob. Fish’s has been ranked as high as #17 in the world rankings.

Tournament director Adam Malik had this to say about this year’s draw,

“The draw for this year's tournament is full of talent and promises a great inaugural week of tennis. Having Mardy Fish and Justin Gimelstob adds great depth to this year's event. Both these players are well known to the savvy local tennis community, and along with local favorites Brian Vahaly, Scoville Jenkins and Bobby Reynolds- fans have many great players to root for. We are in for an amazing week of tennis."
