Family Circle Tennis Center to Offer Cardio Tennis Classes

January 18, 2006 12:23 PM

The Family Circle Tennis Center announced today that Cardio Tennis classes will be offered at the facility starting this week. Cardio Tennis is a new fitness initiative developed by the Tennis Industry Association with the support of the United States Tennis Association and is endorsed by renowned fitness expert Denise Austin. This nationwide program, which was unveiled at the 2005 US Open to rave reviews, is aimed at combining tennis with a high-energy, heart-pumping, cardio-vascular workout.

Set in a fun group setting, Cardio Tennis is not only a great new heart-healthy fitness routine designed to help people get in shape, but is also an excellent way to introduce the non-playing public to the sport no matter what their tennis ability or knowledge of the game. A typical Cardio Tennis workout includes a 5-10 minute warm-up, followed by a 30-50 minute cardio workout and a 5-10 minute cool down. All cardio tennis participants use a heart rate monitor which helps them focus on achieving their target heart rate, where the most calories are burned. For more information about Cardio Tennis, visit www.cardiotennis.com.

The Cardio Tennis Program will be taught by Family Circle Tennis Center pro Ashlea Bowen, who is a certified Cardio Tennis instructor. The program is open to both Tennis Center members and nonmembers. The one hour classes are offered on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. or 6:30 p.m., Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. You can participate in the program on a weekly or per session basis. A six-week course is available, which includes 6 one-hour sessions. The cost for this program is $90 for Tennis Center members and $100 for non-members. If you would like to register per class, the price is $20 for Tennis Center members and $25 for non members. If existing teams would like to create their own Cardio Tennis clinic, please contact Ashlea directly to set up a time that suits your team. For more information on the Cardio Tennis program call Ashlea at 849-5304 or email her at abowen@familycirclecup.com

“The benefits of cardio tennis starts with fitness and ends with fun,” stated Bowen. “Participants elevate their heart rates into the aerobic training zone, which allows them to burn more calories than they would during a normal tennis match or practice.”

The Family Circle Tennis Center, home of the Family Circle Cup, is a public facility operated by Family Circle Magazine that hosts a variety of events including concerts, festivals, tennis events and other special activities throughout the year. With over 21 million readers, Family Circle is one of the most widely read monthly magazines in America and is one of 14 leading subscription magazines owned by Meredith Corporation. The Center features a 10,200 seat stadium, a Grand Lawn, 17 tennis courts, all lighted for night play, and a racquet club featuring a full service pro shop and locker room facilities. The Family Circle Tennis Center has a full service event management staff capable of handling all aspects of an event including ticketing, operations, sales, advertising, marketing and public relations.
