October 3, 2005 10:58 AM

Seeking its ninth International Von Cramm Cup win since 1989, the United States Tennis Association announced that Hugh Thomson of Lilburn, Georgia, has been selected to play on the 2005 U.S. Tennis team. The U.S. will compete in this year’s Von Cramm Cup competition in Antalya, Turkey, October 17-22 at the Club Ali Bey. This prestigious cup is an International team competition similar to Davis Cup for men 60 and older. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) sponsors it annually. The U.S. team last won the cup in 2004, defeating Germany in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This will be Mr. Thomson’s first International Competition in the Men’s 60’s, having become eligible for the division this year. Previously, he represented the U.S. in the Perry Cup (Men 50) in 1996 and the Austria Cup (Men 55) in 2002. Hugh has picked up two world singles titles, winning the Men’s 55’s in 2000 and 2002. He is currently the Senior Tennis Professional at the Ansley Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Hugh brings a wealth of successful tennis experience to this year’s Team as one of only four players chosen. Other members of the team will be, Jimmy Parker, Houston, Texas, Leland Housmann, San Diego, California, and Ken Robinson, San Carlos, Calfornia.
