The Ballantrae USTA Women’s Challenger in Pelham, AL

The Pelham Racquet Club in Pelham, Alabama will be hosting The Ballantrae USTA Women’s Challenger presented by Academy Sports & Outdoors. The event will be held September 25 – October 2. The Pelham Racquet Club is a public facility owned and operated by the city of Pelham, and is one of the best public tennis facilities in the country.

Free tickets are available for matches on Sunday September 25 through Friday September 30. You can pick up these tickets at any Birmingham Area Academy Sports & Outdoors Stores, Player’s Choice Tennis, and at the Pelham Racquet Club. Tickets are also available for the Semi-finals to be held on Saturday October 1st and the Finals to be held on Sunday October 2nd. The tickets are $5 each and can be found at the Pelham Racquet Club. All ticket sales benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Central Alabama Chapter. Tuesday through Friday will have a feature match at 6PM. Food will be available to attendees at the tournament, featuring a great menu selection provided by Culinard Catering.

The USTA Women’s Challenger will host a selection of special events including:
Monday, 9/26, Pro Am featuring tournament players paired with Sponsors and local TV and Radio Personalities.
Tuesday, 9/27 is “Tennis for the Cure” night featuring the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation with Special Guests and prizes.
Wednesday, 9/28 is Academy Sports Kid’s Day with a Free Tennis Clinic at 5PM with free Hot Dogs and Soft Drinks for all kids attending.
Saturday, 10/1, The Player’s Choice Tennis EXPO and Demo Day will take place from 9AM to 11AM. Representatives from every major racquet manufacturer will be on hand to give demonstrations of their latest racquets and to unveil some new products featured by Player’s Choice and the Manufacturer. The EXPO will also have a Skills Court where attendees can test their tennis skills to win prizes such as hats, t-shirts, and posters. At 10:30 the skills court will host the FAST SERVE Contest. Semi-Final matches will follow the EXPO starting at noon.

USTA Southern Section players who have entered the tournament include Ansley Cargill, Atlanta, GA and Jewel Peterson, College Park, GA
