Jenkins Wins First ATP Match

August 23, 2005 09:50 AM

Southern Section's own Scoville Jenkins pulled off an upset on Monday defeating Jarkko Nieminen in three sets at the Pilot Pen to earn his first ATP win. Jenkins, who is ranked a career high 372nd, served up 19 Aces in his 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

“I was pretty nervous in the first set” said Jenkins. “I was excited (to win) but I know that this is only the first round.”

Jenkins, from Atlanta, GA, received a wild card into the US Open last Thursday where he will be making his second appearance. Last year, he made his tour-level debut at the US Open, earning a wild card as the USTA Boys’ 18s champion and lost to defending champion Andy Roddick in the first round.

Jenkins next opponent at the Pilot Pen is 4th Seeded Tommy Robredo.
