July 15, 2005 11:17 AM

The Tennis Channel, the only cable television network devoted exclusively to tennis and other racquet sports, announced its prime-time television coverage of the 2005 World TeamTennis (WTT) season. The network’s lineup during the three-week summer season features stars Maria Sharapova, Anna Kournikova, John McEnroe and Martina Hingis, and three classic matches from earlier WTT seasons, competed in by tennis legends Martina Navratilova, Bjorn Borg, Billie Jean King and Chris Evert.

Bruce Rider, executive vice president, programming and marketing, unveiled the network’s 2005 WTT programming schedule.

“World TeamTennis uses a format and style that’s really exciting for tennis fans to watch,” said Rider. “The big stars have always played – from Connors, Evert, Navratilova and Borg to the faces people associate with tennis today: Sharapova, Kournikova, Davenport, Roddick. Tennis fans love it, and we’re excited to offer it again this year.”

In the three weeks from July 19 to Aug. 2, The Tennis Channel will feature a 2005 WTT match each Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. In addition to Sharapova, Kournikova, McEnroe and Hingis, matches on The Tennis Channel from this year’s WTT season will feature Mardy Fish, one of the top young stars in American men’s tennis today.
