Southern Women Taking Pro Circuit By Storm

June 13, 2005 10:03 AM

The Southern Section was represented well in the finals of the $25,000 MECCO Cup USTA Pro Circuit Doubles Championship in Allentown, PA. Number one seeded Ansley Cargill and Julie Ditty faced number two seeded Cory Ann Avants and Kristen Schlukebir in an all Southern final. Cargill and Ditty cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over their opponents in just over an hour to take the title. In singles action the pair faced one another in the second round and Cargill took the match in three sets to upset her sixth seeded doubles partner. Her run was cut short when she faced future finalist and fellow Atlantan, Lindsay Lee-Waters, in the quarterfinals. Varvara Lepchenko defeated number one seed, Lee-Waters 7-6(3), 6-4 in the finals to claim the championship.
