USA Tennis Month Across the South

May is once again USA Tennis Month and there are celebrations being planned and organized all throughout the South. Below is a listing of some of the great activities taking place in the USTA Southern Section during USA Tennis Month. If you have an event to add please contact Marc Kaplan.

USTA Alabama
Saturday, April 30, 2005
– Adult Doubles Round Robin Social at the Cranebrake Club Tennis Facility in Athens, AL. All day until 6pm.

Sunday, May 1, 2005 – Free Tennis Clinic at the Dublin Tennis Center in Madison, AL. 2pm – 5pm.
The month long celebration of tennis kicks off on May 1 at the Dublin Tennis Center in Madison. Dublin Park will host a free tennis clinic from 2:00 to 5:00 PM for ages 5 to 85 sponsored by the Garrett Tennis Academy. The tennis clinic is part of a national campaign by the United States Professional Tennis Association called TENNIS ACROSS AMERICA. Along with the tennis clinic, 256 Motorsports and Trickpaint will provide a Car Show that includes the unveiling of the Garrett Tennis Academy’s new customized Tennis Mobile. DJ Blu is providing heart pumping Christian, Gospel, and inspiring Hip Hop music. Families, organizations, church group and corporate groups are invited to join us. TENNIS – Come Get Fit For LIFE!!!!!!

Saturday May 7, 2005 - “Macon-A-Racket,” John Drew Smith Tennis Center, Macon, GA, 10am - 2pm
This FREE tennis “festival” sponsored by the Macon Tennis Association (MTA) is a great way for the family to get outside and enjoy tennis exhibitions, kids games, prizes and free food! Macon-A-Racket is an event with something planned for all ages from tiny tots to seniors. A special kids section will include arts and crafts, face painting and a blow –up obstacle course. Tennis exhibitions will go on throughout the day given by the professional levels, adults and young players. Practice drills will be conducted for all ages to try out the game of tennis! Free hot dogs and popcorn will be served.

Friday, May 13, 2005 - USTA Kentucky Night at the Louisville Bats baseball game - Louisville, KY, 7:15pm.

Friday, May 20, 2005 - USTA Kentucky Night at the Lexington Legends baseball game at Applebee's Park – Lexington, KY, 7pm.

USTA and local tennis program information will be available at both of these special events. Between-inning promotions will feature tennis to create awareness among potential new players. Lots of tennis goodies will be given away, too. In addition, on May 20, the first 1,000 Legends fans to enter the stadium will receive a Harley-Davidson bandana!

Sunday, May 1, 2005 – USTA Mississippi, Brandon Tennis Association, Madison County Tennis Association and Rankin County Tennis Association are co-sponsoring the May 1 Mississippi Braves Game as they take on the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx. The first 1,000 ticket holders will receive a visor with our logo on it. There will be a Head/Penn tennis racket give-away and USTA Mississippi program information will be available to all interested parties. Special gifts will be given to anyone that signs up for a USTA Membership at the game.

Saturday, May 7, 2005 - Hattiesburg Junior Carnival with the Southern Mississippi Girls Tennis Team. The Hattieburg CTA is sponsoring this event to promote junior tennis in the Pine Belt area of the state. The all day Carnival is for all juniors and after lunch the Southern Mississippi Girl’s team will play an exhibition match and have some Q & A time for the high school level players. Saturday, May 28, 2005 - Kids for Kids Tsunami Relief Benefit Tournament - Ridgeland, MS. All proceeds will go to UNICEF to help the child victims from the Tsunami tragedy. Local tennis pros will come to the event and have a hit with the pros before play begins. All participants will receive a Tsunami Relief t-shirt, lunch and play.
