Six Southern Colleges Competing in 2005 USA Team Tennis Southern Campus Championship

April 19, 2005 05:28 PM

The USTA Southern Section is hosting the first ever USA Team Tennis Southern Campus Championships Saturday April 23rd-24th at the Racquet Club of the South in Norcross, GA. Club teams representing Georgia Tech, Clemson, University of North Carolina Charlotte, Auburn University, University of Georgia, and University of Alabama are scheduled to compete in the tournament.

The playing format will be eight game pro-sets with co-ed teams competing in Men’s and Women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches. The winner is determined by the most games won at the end of play on Sunday.

The USA Team Tennis on College Campus program was created to increase the use of campus facilities while providing students the opportunity to socialize and exercise. Additionally, the program is dedicated to growing the game of tennis on college campuses and offers various funding and grants to support club teams in the South.

“We are very much looking forward to an exciting and competitive event,” said Jeff Smith, Program Coordinator and Tournament Director. “We are hoping that the 2005 event is a stepping stone to a bigger and better future for this program.”
