January 18, 2005 10:06 AM

The USTA Southern Section announced the signing of BMW of North America as title sponsor of Combo Doubles for the USTA Southern Section and USA Tennis Florida. The deal officially began on January 1, 2005 and runs through January 31, 2007. This partnership also includes the Mini Cooper brand as an Official Sponsor of the USTA Southern Section and USA Tennis Florida Combo Doubles Program and allows them to promote their automobiles to all league players and teams throughout the section.

The deal will allow BMW and Mini to hold and promote test drives and car displays at each of the USTA Southern Section and USA Tennis Florida Combo Doubles and State Sectional Championship sites. BMW and USTA Southern Section will be working together to provide incentives for USTA Combo Doubles Players to visit BMW and Mini Cooper dealerships throughout the region.

“BMW is once again proud to be part of the USTA Combo Doubles Leagues in the Southern region. This gives us an excellent audience to showcase not only BMW but Mini Cooper as well. We look forward to an exciting year,” said Hank Schoeler, Regional Sales and Marketing Manager for BMW of North America.

“I am thrilled about our partnership with BMW and Mini Cooper,” said Jeff Gray, USTA Southern Section President. “The BMW brand conveys high quality, excitement and fun, all things we hope to put forth with our tennis programs. I’m confident that their participation will help us in our mission of growing the game.”

“We are fortunate in Florida to enjoy an exciting league tennis program. Having BMW and Mini Cooper as a sponsor for our USA Tennis Florida Combo Doubles will enhance our programs even more! One thing we know is that our players love to take those test drives! We look forward to a win-win for BMW, Mini-Cooper and tennis players in Florida,” added Don Cleveland, President of USA Tennis Florida.

Founded in 1881, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in this country. In addition to owning the US Open and selecting members of the Davis Cup, Fed Cup, Olympic and Paralympic teams, the USTA administers a variety of programs nationwide for players of all ages and ability levels and, as a not-for-profit organization, the association invests 100% of its proceeds to promote and develop the growth of tennis. It is divided into 17 sections, of which the USTA Southern Section is the largest. The 166,000 USTA members living in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee make up the USTA Southern Section, and account for approximately 25% of the total USTA membership. A professional staff housed in Norcross, GA carries out the USTA Southern Section’s daily operations, but policy is formed and much of the organization’s work is executed via a Board and committee structure of over 200 volunteers. Established in 1949, USA Tennis Florida, a section of the United States Tennis Association, is a not-for-profit volunteer organization with more than 44,000 members, and more than 770 organizational members and a $2.8 million budget. As the official governing body of tennis in Florida, USA Tennis Florida operates from an executive office in Daytona Beach with 20 full time staff members who work with over 600 volunteers statewide with a mission to promote and develop tennis in Florida.
