The 2004 Eastern Regional Mixed Doubles Championships were a success thanks to players, staff, and the local tennis community in Memphis, TN. Tournament participants qualified to play in the championship by winning their local leagues, state championships, and sectional championships. Players from New England, Midwest, Florida, Southern and the Caribbean sections were invited to compete in the first USTA regional mixed doubles event. Memphis proved to be fabulous host city offering players the chance to try their luck at casinos, tour Graceland, and visit the famous Beale Street in between matches.
Bev Miller , the local league coordinator for mixed doubles, pulled together many volunteers, hosted a player party, and kept match play running smoothly. Dodie Hanchett, Bee Stewart, Kitty Hopper and Gloria Streuber were volunteers from the Southern section that worked day and night registering players, running the tournament, and presenting awards. The tournament referee, Donna Bailey, demonstrated professionalism and patience throughout the weekend and contributed to the success of this event.
Congratulations to the Eastern Regional Mixed Doubles tournament and the teams who participated!
