April 14, 2004 04:25 PM

Tennessee's Fran Chandler and North Carolina's Marianna Hollman have been named to the 2004 Women's 40 Young Cup Team, where they look to defend their 2003 title against some very tough international competition. Play begins on May 3 in Antalya, Turkey and concludes on May 8.

Fran Chandler
Fran Chandler, of Jackson, TN, was a member of the 2003 championship team. She is currently the no. 2 ranked singles player in the Women’s 40s division in the USTA and was undefeated in tournament play during the 2003 season.

Chandler, a pharmacist, holds many USTA National titles including the 2001 and 2003 National Clay Court Singles Championships and a National Husband and Wife Championship with husband Willie. Her outstanding play during the 2003 Cup event in Germany helped to secure her team’s championship win.

Mariana Hollman, of Winston-Salem NC, has been named, for the third year in a row, to represent the US as a member of the 2004 United States Young Cup Team. She is currently the no. 3 ranked singles player in the Women's 40s Division in the US and is also no. 5 in the 35s.

Marianna Hollman
Hollman, a high school math teacher, holds many USTA National titles and has been ranked in the top 10 in singles and doubles in various age divisions for the past 11 years. In addition to her on court prowess she coaches high school tennis at R.J. Reynolds and was selected as coach of the year in 2001 and 2003.

This international competition is organized and sponsored by the International Tennis Federation and each national team is selected by it’s national association or federation. Competition will take place on slow red clay and will feature the very best players in the world in the 40s age division.
