Tennis TV, the Southeast's Newest Tennis Television Show Debuts May 4

April 30, 2003 02:01 PM

Tennis fans and players now have a new tennis show thanks to Tennis TV. The show, hosted by Atlanta radio personality Steve Barnes from 99X and 1993 French Open Doubles Champion Luke Jensen, launches Sunday, May 4 on Fox Sports Net. Andy Roddick will be “Courtside with Barnes” in a special 2-part interview to launch the all tennis series on Fox Sports Net. Both Barnes and Jensen will get the inside scoop about life on the tour and dish it to 10 million homes weekly.

Tennis TV offers a little something for everyone, featuring segments such as “Courtside with Barnes” where Barnes interviews the biggest names in tennis and the biggest celebrities who can’t get enough tennis; Luke-Vision, which puts a “handy-cam” in the hands of Jensen on the ATP tour; Fix Your Game With Luke, to help with the mechanics of your game; “Tour Trash”, where Jensen dishes out the behind the scene tour gossip; and “Know Your Pros”, where players have to pronounce tour players names correctly to win catering for their entire tennis team. One weekly segment, Challenge the Chumps, pits contestants against Jensen and Barnes on the tennis court! If the viewers take out the “Chumps”, they could win new racquets and a trip to the 2003 US OPEN courtesy of Wilson Sports.

Airing in 24 weekly episodes from May 4 through October 12 on Fox Sports Net, with encore presentations Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., Tennis TV will deliver coverage of the tour’s top events and players, including ATP players Andre Agassi, James Blake, and up and coming Georgian Robby Ginepri. Also look for WTA stars Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Alexandra Stevenson and tour legends like Billie Jean King and Tracy Austin. Some of the tennis celebrity guests include William Shatner, David Arquette, Elton John, Dido, and Gavin Rossdale from the band Bush.

Taped at Atlanta’s Racquet Club of the South, Tennis TV is sponsored by Chrysler, Airtran Airways, Best Buy, Arby’s, Lenox Financial Mortgage and Wilson Tennis. Tennis TV will deliver coverage of the tour’s top events and players to eight states in the southeastern United States.
