Jim O'Hara - Rome News Tribune
Rome, GA

With the deluge of sports scores, information and data available to newspapers on a daily basis, tennis news often falls below their radar. Not so with the Rome News Tribune. As editor, Jim O’Hara has made it a point to include as much tennis information as possible. The paper includes professional tennis news, grabbed directly from the AP wire, as well as local news written by the paper’s talented sports writers. In addition, writers and editors outside of the sports department have printed articles about how tennis impacts the local economy and lifestyle. The paper has been one of the biggest tennis supporters in Rome and Floyd County, printing tennis news year round. In 2002 alone, over 100 articles about tennis appeared in the paper. This past May, twenty-six articles covering the 2002 USA League Tennis GA State Championships were printed in the paper, four of which appeared on the front page. The articles covered both the scores and standings, but also the impact tennis had on the local community. They also provided a photo gallery of the tournament that was available online at www.romenews-tribune.com for four weeks after the tournament concluded. The paper has also made it a point to provide coverage of local junior players, and high school and college results. Rome and all of Georgia is fortunate to have a paper such as the Rome News Tribune dedicated to the sport and committed to helping it grow.
