December 18, 2002 03:27 PM

Tammy Brown
Durham, NC

Tammy Brown has proven herself to be the best Local League Coordinator in Durham, NC and throughout all of the USTA Southern Section. A LLC in Durham for the past three years, Tammy also works for the Durham Park and Recreation Department. Under her committed watch, player participation has steadily increased during her tenure. For example, participation in USA League Tennis for Adults and Seniors more than doubled, jumping from 302 in 2000, to 633 in 2002. Similarly, the Mixed League has moved from 86 players in 2001, to 188 in 2002. Her Combo participation numbers have also seen sharp increases. Tammy has won several awards in North Carolina for “highest percentage growth” and “overall growth” for her work with the USA League Tennis Mixed program. Tammy is also a great promoter of the sport, always looking to bring new players into the fold. She has started several programs designed to feed players into the USA League Tennis program, including a Tennis Challenge Ladder. She also works diligently with the Durham-Orange CTA, helping them run events and sitting on their Board of Directors. “It takes a special person such as Tammy to really bring about growth and change,” said John McLean III, board chair of the Durham-Orange CTA. “Tammy has been a great asset to our local tennis community and has helped to grow the game in the Durham area through her dedication and commitment.”
