November 1, 2002 12:52 PM

Team Southern captured the 2002 USTA Men’s Intersectional Clay title and was awarded the J. Randolph Gregson Trophy this past weekend. The event, held at the historic River Hills Club in Jackson, MS, ran from October 23 through October 27 and was managed by Jim Russell, Barney Chadwick and a host of extraordinary volunteers.

Southern, Captained by Jeff Gray on behalf of Steve Duffel, managed victories in the Men’s 45s, Men’s 55s and Men’s 75. Florida, the finalist in the quest of the Gregson Trophy, won the Men’s 35s and Men’s 65s. The Southern Men’s 55s finished the weekend without the loss of an individual match and featured a three set duel on Saturday between two of the US finest players, Geoff Moore of Florida and Hugh Thomson of Southern.
