State Endorsement Information

STATE / QUOTA SELECTOR and BASIS FOR SELECTION

Quotas are determined by the States Junior Membership and are used for entries into the Southern Closed (June). Players must enter the Southern Closed (June) online and be endorsed by their State.

Beginning March 2017, a Direct Acceptance List will be created for the Southern Closed Championships that includes 16 age-eligible players for each of the Boys' and Girls' 12s-18s divisions. This list will exempt players from playing their state qualifier.

The direct acceptance list for each age division (BG12-18s) will be published on this website on May 15th. This list will be comprised of the top 16 age-eligible players for June in their respective age divisions. Players not listed on the direct acceptance list are not eligible for this exemption. Players must register for the Southern Closed Championship to take advantage of this exemption.

ALABAMA

Quota for Southern Closed B/G 12s 160 draw- 10 (16 direct acceptances and 4 wildcards); B/G 14s-18s 192 draw - 13 (16 direct acceptance and 4 wildcards)

William Fain

It is mandatory that players play in the Alabama Junior State Qualifying Championships in the singles age division they want to be endorsed into the USTA Southern Junior Closed. Being on Alabama’s list of endorsed players does not guarantee entry into the Closed. It is all players’ responsibility to enter the Southern Closed prior to the deadline to be considered.

In special circumstances, the Alabama Junior Competition Committee may grant a waiver. Waiver requests must be made at the earliest time possible. Let it be known in advance that the Committee has a long history of not granting said waivers, as it feels the importance of participating in our Qualifier is top priority.

It is Alabama's responsibility to send the strongest quota of players in each age division based on the results in the qualifier and any other information the committee deems important. We will select players on the following criteria: for the B/G 10s-18s the 4 semifinalist in the main and the 4 semifinalist in the back draw are selected automatically (if the draws have advanced that far prior to selections sent to STA for endorsement). The remaining quota spots in each age division will be determined by the Alabama Junior Competition Committee based on all USTA National, Sectional and District ranking/standing information available.

Any Player that is Top 50 in the National Standing in the Age Division seeking endorsement at our Qualifying Deadline may request an Automatic Waiver from Junior Comp. These waivers must be applied for prior to our Qualifying Deadline and said players are still responsible for registering for the Southern Closed.

The player must play in the Arkansas Junior Qualifying in the age division the player wishes to be considered for the State Quota to the Southern Closed Championships. Participation in the State Qualifying is mandatory unless waived in advance by the Waiver Committee.

Being on the list of Arkansas endorsed players does not guarantee entry into the Southern Closed.  It is the responsibility of each player (those within the quota and the alternates) to enter the Southern Closed prior to the entry deadline in order to be considered for that event.

Selection for five slots per division (10s, 12s, 14s, 16s, 18s) will be based on the top five finishers in the singles divisions of the Arkansas Junior State Qualifying.  In each age division, all remaining slots will be filled based on the strength of a player’s current tournament record. National, Southern, and State records will be considered.
