Presidents Letter

June 13, 2003

Dear Team Captain:

Congratulations to your team for earning the opportunity to compete at the 2003 USA League Tennis presented by Lincoln Southern Sectional Championships!

We know you will enjoy the amenities, facilities and southern charm found in Columbia as well as the camaraderie and competition on the courts!

Deepest thanks to the Jim Wescott, Local Tournament Chairman, and the entire Columbia Host Committee for all of their work in providing a tremendous event both on and off the courts.
For the first time, a social event is planned for EVERY NIGHT of the event: a Welcome Party on arrival day, a beach volleyball and shag party at Lake Murray on the first night of play, the player party at the Riverbanks Zoo on the second night of play, and a team Karaoke contest at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center on the third night of play!
Your team is to be congratulated for an outstanding season this year as earning the right to compete at this event is considered quite the achievement!  Over 18,000 players competed at our nine state championships with 2000 players advancing to the 2003 USA League Tennis Sectional Championships. Just over 200 players will advance to the National Championships in Palm Springs, Tucson and Scottsdale representing over 119,000 participants in the USTA Southern Section.

The sport of tennis is on the upswing.  We hope you will return home from this experience with enthusiasm and excitement and become an ambassador for the sport of tennis, the USTA and USA League Tennis.

Enjoy Columbia!

Judith B. Miller, President
USTA Southern Section
