Southern Senior Cup

2020 Senior Cup Information

We regret to announce that the 2020 Southern Senior Cup Team Championship will be canceled. This decision was not an easy one, but looking out for player health and safety, the Adult Tournament Competition Committee feels it’s in the best interest of everyone.

Other factors (but not limited to):

  • Uncertainty of when USTA will resume play.
  • Uncertainty of the long-term impact of players attending large events once play resumes.
  • With a shorter duration to finish programs (including USTA League play), postponement of Senior Cup until later in the year did not seem like a good option.

Senior Cup 2021 will return to Pelham Racquet Club for next year’s event on June 3-6, 2021.

2018 Senior Cup

The 2018 Southern Cup was played May 31-June 3, at the Huntsville Tennis Center, 2305 Airport Rd SW, Huntsville, AL 35801. Click here for more information. All nine Southern states participated.

Here were the cup and title winners: Mildred Southern Cup: North Carolina (pictured above); Gil Stacy Memorial Cup: Georgia and South Carolina (tie); Women - North Carolina; Men - Tennessee

Tani Deaton and Huntsville Tennis Center continue to make Senior Cup a stellar event for our players. The tournament also would not have been possible without the efforts from the tournament staff who volunteered their time to make this tournament a success. Those volunteers were Cookie Guarini, Nancy Vineyard, Bonnie & Mike Vandegrift, and Jeff Gray, along with our Referee Marty Engle and Southern staffer Marita Edrosa.

We also want to take this time to thank all of our captains for efforts in recruiting, coordinating and serving as the leader for your state teams. USTA Southern would not be able to host this tournament without you ... so thank you for allowing us an opportunity to host this great event. And kudos to our two new captains -- Barbara Ernest from AL and Ged Swing from LA -- for a great job in their first year of captaining.

The championship continues to be USTA Southern's crown jewel of adult competition in the South. The event will draw more than 300 players in team competition for men and women in the 35, 45, 55, 65, and 75 age categories with a team match format of two singles and one doubles. The players in the field include former collegiate All-Americans, NCAA champions and professional players. Each state will vie for a chance at the Mildred Southern Cup, Gil Stacy Cup, and the men and women’s overall scoring title.
