The 5th Annual Rock Hill Rocks Open, a USTA Pro Circuit event, was played Oct. 13-Oct. 20 in Rock Hill, S.C., at the outdoor hard courts of the Rock Hill Tennis Center, located at 897 Maplewood Lane, Rock Hill, S.C. 29730.
Colombian Mariana Duque-Marino took home both titles. As top-seed she defeated fifth-seed Anna Tatishvili 6-3, 6-4. In doubles, Duque-Marino and Argentina's Maria Irigoyen downed Americans Allie Kiick and Asia Muhammad 4-6, 7-6(5), [12-10].
Melanie Oudin, of Marietta, Ga., advanced to the semifinals but lost to Duque-Marino 6-0, 6-3.
Background information
The $25,000 women’s event is open and free to the public. The tournament will feature a singles main draw of 32, a qualifying draw of 64, and a doubles main draw of 16. Qualifying for singles is set to begin on Oct. 13 with doubles following on Oct. 14. Main draw play will begin on Oct. 15.
Youth tennis players ages 4 to 18 are invited to the Rockin’ Junior Kickoff clinic from 6 to 7:30 pm Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Rock Hill Tennis Center. The event is free.
Professional players from the tournament will help at the fun youth tennis clinic. Participants will get pizza, autographs, and goody bags.
Adult tennis players are invited to the Adult Pro-Am event from 6:30 to 8 pm on Monday, October 14, 2013 at the tennis center. The cost is $50.
Participants will enjoy doubles round-robin tennis with players from the tournament. There will be pizza and door prizes.
