2007 Award - Mickey McNulty Family of the Year

Mickey McNulty Family of the Year Award
Given in memory of Judge Mickey McNulty, this award is presented annually to a family that resides in the USTA Southern Section that has been outstanding in its promotion of tennis.

The David and Caroline KimballFamily
Shreveport, LA

The term "eight is enough" does not mean a thing to the Kimball family. Eight is just perfect- just ask David, Caroline, Shaffer, SaraCaroline, AnneMarie, RebeccaGrace, Ian and Knox. The family that hails from Shreveport, LA is the epitome of a tennis family involved in every program that the game offers. President of Northwest Louisiana Tennis Association, David, was named Southern Tennis Professional of the Year in 2004. Since then he has worked on programs such as Fun, Friends and Fitness, Welcome Back to Tennis, and USTA League tennis. He served as Tournament Director of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation event and USTA Adult and Senior State Championships. A believer in grassroots tennis, David commits hours to school assemblies, middle school tennis and high school league tennis.

As if being a mother of six were not a full time job, Caroline Kimball captains Women’s, Mixed, Combo and Jr. Team Tennis teams. She served as the referee for the Jr. Team Tennis State Tournament and is a Jr. Team Tennis Committee member for USTA Louisiana. Introduced to tennis on her first date with husband David, Caroline captains, participates, and officiates on a regular basis. She has been instrumental in Development Coaches’ Workshops and has a passion for bringing tennis to young children.

Oldest son, Shaffer is involved with the junior program at Southern Hills Tennis Center and a member of several Jr. Team Tennis teams. The thirteen year old keeps busy helping his dad at the tennis center, but the two also share a bond off court. Shaffer has earned the honor of Boy Scout Tenderfoot Rank, a program in which his father also serves as assistant Scout Master. SaraCaroline, 12, also involved in Jr. Team Tennis can be seen helping out around Southern Hills Tennis Center. She is an up and coming junior player, finishing 2007 ranked No. 21 in the Girls’ 12s. Younger sister, AnneMarie, had a busy year as she played in 15 sanctioned junior tournaments. Her Jr. Team Tennis team finished first at the State Championships in the 10-and-under division, where she teamed up with younger sister RebeccaGrace, 9, to win the championship. RebeccaGrace finished 2007 ranked No. 6 in 10-and-under division in Louisiana and No. 24 in the Southern Section. Ian, who turned 8 in January, is following suit with lessons, Jr. Team Tennis and sanctioned tournaments. Youngest of the gang, Knox, age 5, has already jumped into the tennis program at Southern Hills and is also considered the No. 1 fan of his siblings.

The Kimball Family was also named 2007 Louisiana Mickey McNulty Family of the Year.

Other nominees: The Walter Lewis Family, AL; The Mel Collazo Family, AR; The Curt Bjerregaard, GA; The Greg Butler, MS; The Yona Bar-Zeev Family, NC
