2007 Award - Bill Ozaki Junior Sportsmanship Award

Bill Ozaki Junior Sportsmanship Award
The Bill Ozaki Junior Achievement Award was created in 2005 to honor the work and dedication put in by Bill OzakiDirector of Junior Tennis for the USTA Southern Section.  This award is given to a junior player who best exemplifies the finest qualities of sportsmanship in tournament play and the finest traditions of the great sportsmen of tennis past and present.

Keri Wong, Jackson, MS
Keri Wong has a long list of tennis achievements but it is her gracious conduct that sets her heads and shoulders above the rest. One of the most talented players in the Section, Keri has picked up several sportsmanship awards through her junior career.

“During all of her competition Keri has displayed unwavering sportsmanship towards her opponents,” said USTA Southern Director of Player Development Bill Ozaki.

Her ability and attitude on court caught the attention of Clemson Tiger Women’s Head Tennis Coach Nancy Harris. Wong is set to join the Lady Tigers in the Fall of 2008.

"We are so excited to have Keri join our Clemson Tigers," Harris said. "She is a great young woman and a great young talent. “

In the 2008 recruiting class, Wong has been ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation by tennisrecruiting.net and is currently listed as the No. 1 player in Mississippi and No. 4 in the USTA Southern Section.. She hold the No.10 spot in the USTA Girls 18 rankings, which includes nearly 2,000 junior players. Wong is the highest rated American player to sign with Clemson in the past 11 years.

Wong owns a 60-17 overall record with 15 victories over elite Blue Chip players. She won the USTA Interscholastic East tournament title last May, dropping just one set in six matches of the event. She took the title at the USTA ITF in College Station, TX in 2007 and won the Girls’ 16s Easter Bowl Championship in 2006.
