January 28, 2011 10:26 AM
By John Hobart & Kerri Gibson, USTA Southern intern

The 2011 ITA season kicks off this weekend with 25 sites playing host to events. Southern host sites include Duke (dual-gender), Tennessee (dual-gender), North Carolina (women’s), Clemson (women’s), Georgia Tech (women’s), Georgia (men’s), Kentucky (men’s), and Louisville (men’s).

Many other Southern Division I teams will be participating in the Kick-Off Weekend. Arkansas, Mississippi, Winthrop, College of Charleston, South Carolina, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Alabama, NC State, and Auburn will be competing in the women’s events. On the men’s side will be South Carolina, Mississippi, USC Upstate, Clemson, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Auburn, ETSU, Troy, NC State, Wake Forest, Alabama, Vanderbilt and Mississippi.

For the women, the No. 1 team in each site will face the No. 4 team. The No. 2 team will face the No. 3 team. Two matches are guaranteed - the winners/losers will play the following day. The 15 schools that win both of their matches at these events will be invited to play in the Feb. 18-21 ITA National Team Indoor Championship at the Boar's Head Sports Club (hosted by the Univ. of Virginia). The men’s side will have the same format except their National Team Indoor Championship will be hosted by the University of Washington.

Be sure to check back Monday for results. Click here for seeding and bracket breakdown.
