The Tennis on Campus team from North Carolina State University finished second in the USTA Campus Championship – Southern at Auburn University.

The team has interesting practice rituals that include a form of "mini-tennis." which is described as four team members playing doubles; when one individual gets three outs they must stand at the baseline while the other three remaining members take one serve at each player. All of the team members get really into the game while also warming up and developing a hard serve and soft hands at the net.

The Wolfpack team is also involved in their local Raleigh community as they volunteered as a team at the John Isner charity event. Andy Andrews, the former professional, NC State alumni and USTA Southern secretary , hosted the event.

The team spent the day with Isner and former pro Luke Jensen, watching college football and helping coach clinics. The team happily provided Isner with NC State attire in lieu of his Kansas City Royals hat that closely resembled the Wolfpack’s in-state rival the University of North Carolina. They also volunteer with other local sports businesses for service hours and donations.

Recently, the team attended the Greenbrier Cup Tournament in West Virginia. This event allowed the team to bond with one another as the resort atmosphere promoted the team’s close relationship. There are members of the NC State team that will be attending the championships for the first time this year. Throughout the year, players have participated in multiple tournaments as team which has helped the new members adapt to club tennis very quickly.

The team is thankful there is no snow in the forecast for this year. In 2009 they were stuck in a snow storm in Charlotte and walked to a hotel where they were offered a spot to sleep in the lobby. It’s quite a memorable story for the team.
